about

This is an updated version of this track, with the guitar part tweaked and re-rendered with a different plugin. I'm much happier with the sound of this one, but the old one is still available as a bonus track on the album in case anyone prefers that one.

This track ended up a little more complex than the others but still simpler than how I normally write. I wanted to use a guitar rather than a piano, and I found a synth preset that I really liked for this one.

There's a bit of influence from Nobuo Uematsu's work on the Final Fantasy games here, and also from the NieR soundtrack.

Compositionally, there's one chord progression in C minor that is later transposed to F minor. The chords are fairly standard, except for the final one (Cm - Gm/Bb - Ab - Gb) but I used some parallel fourths to create a bit of unease amongst what is a relaxing progression. The synth chords also generated the higher pitched sounds which add to the tension.

about

Nicholas Owen-Petch Sheffield, UK

As a composer, I take a lot of influence from soundtracks - in particular, 90s and early 2000s video game soundtracks when graphics were often not good enough to convey the emotion of a scene and voice acting wasn't ubiquitous - the music had to tell the story and let the player know what the characters were feeling.
