    A set of variations I wrote on the theme of We Wish You a Merry Christmas. This project started many years ago - I was teaching piano to a woman from China who wanted to learn a Christmas carol and also learn a bit more about Western classical music at the same time.

    Each variation is loosely inspired by a different composer: Bach, Clementi, Schubert, Beethoven, and Rachmaninov. They aren't intended to be style studies, more of an evocation, so anyone who has in depth knowledge of these composers could likely pick apart my variations.

    Every year since I started this project, I told myself that I'd write some more variations and release them in time for Christmas. This year I actually managed to organise myself to finish this project and I'm happy with the result.     ... more

As a composer, I take a lot of influence from soundtracks - in particular, 90s and early 2000s video game soundtracks when graphics were often not good enough to convey the emotion of a scene and voice acting wasn't ubiquitous - the music had to tell the story and let the player know what the characters were feeling.
